The Cotswolds Distillery

I have been working with the Cotswold Distillery over the last while and been having such fun – I’m not sure if I should say that as I really am working!

The Distillery has only been open eighteen months but has a huge impact on the industry. They have recently won the Gold Best Gin in the World award at the World Gin Awards and a Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirit Competition then two medals at the Berlin competition; gold for their beautifully blue bottled Cotswolds Dry Gin and UK Gin Distillery of the year. A silver medal from the American Distilling Institute in the Craft Dry Gin category followed, and then they rounded off their clutch of awards with a Platinum medal from the expert tasters at the Beverage Tasting Institute, who described our gin as ‘superlative’, and gave it their joint-highest score across the gin category.

What they don’t say is that it is one of the very few spirits that can be drunk on its own as the taste is so smooth and rounded with not a wasted roll around your tongue, it is a sensational and sensory joy to drink.

We have produced a glorious soap made from the gin botanicals distilled in my Alembic Still to produce a soap that encapsulates the very best scent from the botanicals ingredients – Juniper, Pink Grapefruit, Coriander, Bay, Lavender, Angelica, Lime and Black Pepper. It is made with Olive oil, Coconut oil, Shea butter, the botanical hydrosol and the essential oils – so simple with a subtle warming scent that you recognise but just can’t place…

Go and visit the Distillery and have a look round as it is fascinatingCotswolds-Distillery-19a-890x589

I am really pleased to announce that Shakespeare’s Sisters Soap is the official soap maker for the celebrations for Shakespeare 400! We have been commissioned to make a soap that will be given out to the visiting dignitaries during the Birthday Celebrations in April 23rd 2016.

It is made from Rosemary for remembrance, Spearmint and Lavender, all grown in my Stratford-upon-Avon garden.

Aftershave and Cologne Workshop for Men

I was asked by a rugby player this weekend ‘why are your scent workshops just for women?’

‘There’re not’, I replied ‘the scent sessions are for both men and women, and in all but one session I have done so far has been with a chap.’

‘Not good enough’ he said ‘make it more man-friendly, don’t scare me with floral waters and fluffy oils. Give me resins, waxes, ground up roots and ripped leaves. Let me build a Cologne or an After Shave.’

So there we have it – my new workshop – Aftershaves and Colognes for Men, by Men.

Perfect present for the man in your life. Let him build….

Scottish Soap, Body Mist and Bog Myrtle Body Butter in Camas Inas

The Scottish Soap Delivery

Scottish Bog Myrtle Soap and Flower Waters ready for delivery

Scottish Bog Myrtle Soap and Flower Waters ready for delivery

You know how I love distilling and in and around Camas Inas I have the chance to distill an amazing array of plants that I cannot find in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Camas Inas

Camas Inas

The range of pines is incredible, juniper, lichens, seaweeds, bog myrtle, heather to name just a few!

My time in Camas Inas always goes so quickly even though the pace of life just slows to a serene stroll and time seems to lengthen to mirror the slowly enveloping dusk. None of this light – snap -dark; it is a slow suffusing of darkness when the deer wander round the cottage, the bats fly out and the day birds give over to nightly hooting owls and snuffling pine martins.

This week was no different except that I did my favorite delivery to the most westerly shop that I know of in mainland Britain in Kilchoan. It is a small shop and Post office crammed full of organic and non-organic goodies, books, papers, local produce, bird food and a two pump petrol/diesel station outside.

I used the healing body butter with the healing soap when I was going through treatment for breast cancer; it kept my skin soft and stopped any infection. I would recommend for other women who are going through this medical procedure. Thank you. M.S Stratford
